One thing every house needs…

It has been a huge couple of weeks for Sabi Style.
But one new job has really made me think.
In their contact email they said that they were looking for help to create a family home and start from scratch.

It was only when I met with them that I found out why.
I assumed that this was a family that had arrived from overseas to begin a new life in Australia.
I was wrong – their home had been destroyed by a fire.

Thankfully no one was hurt and they were able to get out in time.
It was their well maintained smoke alarm that saved their lives.

There are 2 main types of alarms:

  1. Ionisation – designed to “smell” the smoke that comes from the flames
  2. Photoelectric – designed to “see” the smoke even before a smouldering fire bursts into flames and therefore responds faster

In Australia it is mandatory for every home (owned or rented) to have one.
But just having it is not enough – you have to maintain it.

In most countries there are professionals that will service all your alarms for a set fee.

The key things they check, are:

  • Ensuring the correct quantity and quality of smoke alarms are installed
  • Ensuring correct positioning of smoke alarms and reposition any as needed
  • Ensuring ventilation holes are clear of obstructions such as insects and debris
  • Checking the expiry date of every alarm
  • Full function test on every alarm including testing the alarm with artificial smoke

Please don’t just ponder this – make sure you and your family are protected.
This is one thing you don’t want to leave to chance.
